The Students’ Union (SU) is the representative body for all University of Greater Manchester students. Our purpose is to promote the interests and welfare of students by representing, supporting and advising students. As a student at the University of Greater Manchester you are automatically a member of the Students’ Union.
The SU is a registered charity, an entirely independent organisation committed to ensuring we meet the needs of our students. This includes:
- Advice and guidance: we’re here to help with anything from information about the area to supporting you to settle into university life.
- Volunteering opportunities: Find out how you can volunteer to help the SU or other organisations across Greater Manchester. Speak to us about current opportunities to find out ways to get involved!
- Clubs and societies: Stuck for something to do? Looking to make friends? Meet with like minded students and join one or many of our clubs and societies
- Activities and events: We run activities all year to keep you connected and involved – from Freshers Fair to wellness weeks and cultural celebrations. You can see all upcoming events here.
- Course Representatives: Apply to be a Course Rep and be the voice of your classmates. It’s a great way to make a difference, meet new people, and gain useful experience for the future.

SU President Saad Mehmood serves as the University of Greater Manchester’s Student Union President, including as a Governor of the University and Trustee of the Students’ Union. He leads the Students’ Union and represents students in the local community and nationally as part of the National Union of Students. Saad meets regularly with the University Vice Chancellor and senior members of staff to represent the views of students.
