We recognise the important role teachers and advisers play in supporting learners as they explore their options and plan their next steps. That’s why we work with schools and colleges to offer a range of activities, both on and off campus, helping learners explore higher education, discover what university life is like and make informed decisions about their future.
We can work with you to plan a programme for your students, including subject sessions, campus tours and opportunities to speak to our staff and students.
Our team can tailor the visit to suit your school or college and the areas you’d like your students to explore.
We offer a range of talks and sessions covering topics such as choosing a course, applying to university, student life and finance. Sessions can also help students understand what to expect when they start university and give them the opportunity to ask questions about their options.
Come and speak to our team at one of the events below to find out more about studying at UGM, ask questions and explore your options for higher education.
Your young person may be the first in family to embark on the higher education journey or be preparing for your student to flee the nest for the very first time. Naturally, there will be lots of questions you need answering, so here are some helpful articles, information and guidance to help prepare you as much as possible for this process.

We aim to work closely with your school or college to provide activities and information that can support your existing careers guidance programme.
Our sessions have been developed with the Gatsby Benchmarks in mind, so our talks and workshops can complement your existing careers and education programmes.
We’re keen to take a personalised approach to working with our school and college partners.
You’ll have a dedicated contact within the UK Student Recruitment Team who can help you explore opportunities for your students, discuss upcoming activities and answer any questions you may have.
Our taster days give school and college students the opportunity to explore university life and find out more about studying at UGM.
Through subject-specific sessions, students can learn more about their chosen subject, meet staff and students, and explore the campus. It’s a chance to ask questions, discover what university could be like and help them make informed decisions about their next steps.
By visiting your school or college, we can introduce higher education in a familiar and supportive setting.
Our sessions provide clear information about the university application process, helping students understand the different steps involved and explore their options for their next steps.
We work closely with our partners at Greater Manchester Higher (GMH) to provide information and activities that help prospective students explore higher education and consider their options.
GMH delivers pre- and post-16 activities both in and outside the classroom, supporting students as they explore their future education and career options.
For more information, please contact Elin Stewart-Bowker, GM Higher Hub Manager (Bolton, Bury and Rochdale).

Personal statements & Student Finance workshops
‘Ian and Helena have been a great support to our students throughout the UCAS process. Their talks on personal statements and student finance are always clear, engaging, and genuinely helpful. They create a relaxed atmosphere where learners feel comfortable asking questions, and the guidance they provide is practical and easy to follow. Our students consistently give very positive feedback about these sessions, often commenting on how much more confident they feel afterwards. We really value the work Ian and Helena do and look forward to continuing our partnership with them next academic year..’
Computing Subject Taster Day
"We had a very positive experience during our last visit, and the students really enjoyed the activities and engagement. On a personal note, I am originally from Bolton, so I have seen first-hand how the University of Greater Manchester has grown and developed over the years, which makes this visit particularly meaningful."
Motorsports Taster
‘Just wanted to say thank you for your time and support in arranging and hosting our students on their university visit.
