Starting university is a huge milestone – and we’re here to help you feel confident, capable, and excited every step of the way. If you’re beginning your university journey, you’ll be eligible to take part in the PREPARE Pre-enrolment Programme – a free, flexible support programme designed exclusively for new University of Greater Manchester students
PREPARE is your head start
PREPARE has been created to help you settle in, build essential skills, and feel ready for the transition into university life. Whether you’re joining straight from college or sixth form, coming back to education after a break, arriving from overseas, or just looking to ease your nerves – Prepare is for you.
PREPARE gives you access to a range of short, interactive online activities and resources – all available to explore at your own pace before your course begins. The content is grouped into three key support areas:
Academic support
Get to grips with university-style learning early! You’ll explore useful academic skills like how to write at university level and planning and an introduction to The Greater Manchester Way. You’ll also be introduced to digital platforms you'll use every day so there are no tech surprises in your first week!
Wellbeing support
Moving into university life is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming at times. Our wellbeing activities are full of practical advice to help you feel good, stay balanced, and the support available if you need it. You’ll learn about managing stress, handling finances, and making the most of the wellbeing services available to you – including Student Support Services.
It’s never too early to start thinking about your future! PREPARE offers tips on how to find part-time work, and start building the skills that will help you succeed after graduation. You’ll also learn about the university’s career services and how they can support you from day one.
PREPARE is for foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate taught students starting university on certain courses for the first time. You might be:
- First-generation student - the first in your family to go to university
- Returning to education - coming back to education after time away
- Relocating - moving to the UK to study
- Wanting to build confident - you might be feeling unsure of what to expect and simply want to feel more confident
How do I join?
Once you’ve accepted your offer to study at the university, you’ll automatically receive an email from the PREPARE Team with more information and a link to sign up. It’s simple, flexible, and completely free.
University is a big step – but you don’t have to take it alone. With PREPARE, you’ll start to develop your confidence and a sense of belonging, gain skills and get excited for what’s ahead!
