What to expect on the day

Open Days aim to give prospective students the best experience and opportunity to find out everything they need to know before applying for a course. Booking a place before arriving helps us plan accordingly and communicate any updates to you.

There will be a programme of activity for the full duration of the Open Day, featuring presentations, talks, tours and workshops where possible, to help showcase all the different aspects of what being a student at the University of Greater Manchester is like.

You are welcome to bring friends, family or anyone else who will support you in making your University decisions.

Postgraduate information will be available on a one to one basis from 11:30am - 3pm. You are welcome to attend the full day to find out about support services, take a tour of the campus or ask any other non-academic questions you have.

Why attend an Open Day?

The Open Day is designed to help you find out all the information you will need in one visit, whether you attend all day or nip in to ask just a few questions, our staff are on hand to support you and make your future plans possible.

Upon arrival you will find staff and ambassadors ready to help sign you in and get your day started. Please feel free to ask questions, making sure to ask ambassadors (and other students) about their experiences.

  1. Make sure to book your place
  2. Follow our social channels
  3. Make sure to have a good look through the course search, have a read through the entry points and think about what questions you’d like to ask
  4. Plan your day, buying train or coach tickets can be cheaper if you buy in advance (make sure to read through how we can support with the cost of attending too)
  5. Think about everything else but the course you want to study
    - will you be commuting or living in halls?
    - Do you need advice about funding options? Explore the surrounding area?
These are all really important factors in helping you make your decision, make sure to prioritise these as part of your visit so that when you come to making your decision you have that bit of extra confidence in taking the next step
  1. Attend talks, tours, workshops or presentations for your chosen subject/s, if you have more than one choice at this stage, have a think about what your first and second choices are and approach planning your visit that way
Include friends, family, tutors and any supporters in this process; there are lots of factors that you may not think of yourself
  2. Speak to students (not just the ambassadors), there will be students in many areas of the University, happy to speak to you about their experiences; maybe give this advice a miss if you’re in the library or near our private study pods!
  3. Grab a drink and take a breath - it can seem like you have to rush from one session to the next, but remember to take your time; reflect on what you’re finding out - do you need clarification on anything? Did you want to see something in particular, ask anything specific to your areas of interest? Our staff and students are happy to help
  4. Is there anything about the surrounding area you want to see? From the city centre of Manchester to the Rivington Pike, you’ll potentially spend a lot of time here, think about factoring in something extra curricular to your day
  1. If you already have qualifications our admissions team will be happy to go over these and let you know your eligibility for courses, we can even take copies to add to any active applications you have
  2. Bring a notepad and a pen or something to make notes on - you will be getting information, links, social media handles and lots of other pieces of information so remember to jot these down for later
  3. Bring a friend or family member along to help ask all the questions, and listen to all the answers, it can feel like a lot to take in so this can help when you reflect on your open events
  4. A bit cliche, but, bring an open mind, you might find out about different courses that spark your interest or another way to study. University isn't a one size fits all so make sure to keep your options open

After the event you'll receive a feedback email, which should only take 2-3 minutes of your time. If you would like to go on to make an application, please visit here.
