Clive Myrie pays tribute to England midfield star Jude Bellingham at University of Greater Manchester graduation ceremony

BBC journalist and Mastermind presenter Clive Myrie paid tribute to England star Jude Bellingham as he handed out degrees at his home town university.

Clive, who is one of the University of Greater Manchester’s Pro Chancellors, presented graduates from the School of Health, Science and Society with their degrees in the Albert Halls in Bolton Town Hall on Tuesday.

Clive who was born and brought up in Bolton, said: “Where would one hero of the English be today without his mum and dad and loyal friends and the millions of people that he has given enormous pleasure to?

“I am of course talking about a young man by the name of Jude Victor William Bellingham. Leading the midfield for England against Argentina tomorrow, we wish him well, although there may be some Argentinians here and if there are I apologise!

“He has worked so hard, not only to fulfil his own beliefs and ideas about what he wanted to achieve in this life, but also making the world a happy place for the millions of fans that he is playing football for. And we thank him and the England team for that.”

He added: “It’s always great to be back in my home town.”

The Earl of St Andrews, the University’s Chancellor, also presided over ceremonies, which were attended by honorary doctors and guests of the University.

On Monday, students from the School of Engineering and the Built Environment, as well as Motorsport programmes, were awarded their degrees.

Graduation ceremonies are due to take place throughout the week.
