Postgraduate James McGregor completed a master’s in civil engineering after graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering.
James works for Amey Consulting, a support services supplier, as a Senior Civil Engineering Beng (Hons) CEng MICE. Amey employs 16,000 people, helps maintain the UK’s road and rail infrastructure and provides other vital services. James said, “I enjoy civil engineering building and designing things, and managing the construction of major projects that have a positive impact on both the local environment and users”.
He added “Postgraduate study provided me with better tools, knowledge and higher level of skill to analyse and interpret information, which allows me to deliver a better project. “The quality of teaching at UGM was very good indeed, a great mix and balance of practical and theoretical experience. “You need to be able to relate what you have learnt in real life, and the practical experiences we had at UGM gave me a more realistic understanding of the problems I faced at work and the solutions. I have been able to implement that learning in the workplace.
“At UGM, I also had a real personal relations w2th the lecturers. They provided additional learning and support because I put in the extra work. That personal touch gets a better result. “It’s also important that the lecturers provide industry knowledge which helps you in the real world. “The University of Greater Manchester was excellent – the lecturers and staff are there to support and challenge, which is really important, particularly at a postgrad level”. James added. “The MSc enabled me to analyse various problems at a greater depth and understanding it also made me more employable to prospective employers in the construction and civil engineering industries and the wider market.
“Postgrad give you more employment opportunities, better skills and knowledge, and further learning. “If you’re planning on working in the civil engineering industry. UGM’s MSc in Civil Engineering is a must!”.
