Research students from the University of Greater Manchester celebrated at the first of series of graduation ceremonies at Bolton Parish Church.
University chancellor, Earl of St Andrews, presided over the first ceremony.
He said: “It is my great privilege and joy to welcome you all to this graduation ceremony of the University of Greater Manchester, today being held in the magnificent setting of Bolton Parish Church.
“As one of Bolton's most historic and cherished landmarks, this place of worship has stood at the heart of the community for centuries, witnessing countless moments of celebration, reflection, and renewal.
“It is therefore a particularly fitting place in which to mark this important milestone in your lives and celebrate the achievements of a new generation of research graduates.”

Students at Wednesday’s ceremonies were from the Research & Doctoral College, the School of Engineering & Built Environment (Research), the School of Health, Science and Society (Research) and Greater Manchester School of Law (Research), the Centre for Islamic Finance, the School of Arts & Creative Technologies (Research), the School of Education (Research), the Centre for Coronial Law and Greater Manchester School of Law (Research).
The Earl added: “Research powers the progress that transforms industries, advances society, and helps to solve the world's most pressing challenges.
In an era of rapid technological change and global uncertainty, new knowledge and collaborative thinking are essential to creating meaningful impact.
“As the world evolves, communities need people like you, who can generate new knowledge, think creatively, and apply their expertise with compassion, integrity, and humanity.
“Your time at the University of Greater Manchester, has equipped you to meet these challenges.”
Thursday sees more ceremonies at the Parish Church, while the University’s undergraduates will take part in their graduations all next week at the Albert Halls in Bolton Town Hall.
