The University of Greater Manchester hosted a special multi-faith Iftar dinner during the holy month of Ramadan, which ended on Friday.

The event on campus was organised by volunteers of the Bolton branch of The Dialogue Society.

The theme for the evening was ‘Building Community Trust’ and was aimed at strengthening community bonds, and promoting peace and unity. There were a number of cultural performances, music and speeches.

Attendees enjoyed good food and conversations with distinguished guests, who included Dr Andrew Roberts, Chair of the University’s Board of Governors; Dr Julian Coleman, the University’s Executive Director Research & Knowledge Exchange; Aris F Matthaiou, Assistant Vice Chancellor External relations and Institutional Advancement; Rev Dr Gill Smart, the University’s Coordinating Chaplain; The Right Reverend John Arnold, Bishop of Salford; Rev Hannah Lane, Vicar of Bolton and Rev Michaila Roberts, Lecturer, Bolton Parish Church.

A spokesperson for The Dialogue Society, which fosters dialogue between people of different cultures and religions said: “This year, our Iftar programme is hosted by the University of Greater Manchester, which has contributed to education and community life in Bolton for many years.

"Under its roof, we celebrate diversity, cultural exchange, and the spirit of living together in harmony."
