Dr Samantha Marie Walkden, from the School of Psychology, was recently interviewed by ITV News in relation to the Southport enquiry. This enquiry refers to an official investigation into events and decisions linked to a serious incident that took place on 29 July 2024 in Southport, Merseyside.
That incident prompted significant national attention and led to ongoing investigations and enquiries examining the circumstances, response, and wider implications of the event. As a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Psychology and Chartered Psychologist, she provided expert commentary on the issues and implications arising from the case.
During the interview, Dr Walkden provided insight into key aspects of the enquiry, specifically the offending behaviour, mental health, and development of the individual who committed the acts. This helps to contextualise developments and explain their broader significance to a public audience.
