Greater Manchester Business School (GMBS) recently hosted an AI-focused event organised by pro-manchester, bringing together business leaders and professionals from across Greater Manchester to explore how organisations can harness the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence while managing the associated risks.
The event provided a practical and balanced look at AI adoption, highlighting how organisations are already using AI to deliver tangible benefits, including improved productivity, enhanced customer service, more accurate forecasting and smarter decision-making.
Attendees also explored some of the challenges associated with adopting AI, including data privacy, inaccuracies in AI-generated content and the potential impact of poorly implemented automation on organisational culture and trust.
Through real-world examples, practical frameworks and interactive discussion, participants gained insights into how to identify AI projects that can deliver genuine value while avoiding common pitfalls.
The event highlighted the importance of combining technological innovation with strategic thinking, effective governance and human judgement as organisations consider how best to adopt AI.
Nurun Nahar, Assistant Teaching Professor, at Greater Manchester Business School, said:
“The value of this event was in bringing industry practitioners and academics into the same conversation about the real wins and risks of AI adoption. As AI innovation accelerates, this kind of dialogue is both significant and timely.
“It helps us, as an applied business school, keep our curriculum relevant and support Greater Manchester businesses in moving from experimenting with AI to adopting it well — with the strategic governance, AI literacy and critical human judgement that responsible adoption actually requires.”
The event reinforces Greater Manchester Business School’s commitment to working with businesses and industry to support responsible innovation and develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities needed to navigate an evolving digital landscape.
