Bolton Neuro Voices (BNV) hydrotherapy programme is a unique collaborative project between the charity, Bolton Neuro Voices and the University of Greater Manchester physiotherapy programme. This successful venture includes a biannual course for new users and ongoing group-based continuation programmes for those able to continue to engage with the activities safely without the constant presence of the physiotherapist.
All sessions (divided into 30-minute slots) are on Wednesdays between 12 noon and 3pm and take place in the purpose-built hydrotherapy pool at the Sir Jason Kenny Leisure Centre at Bolton One, Moor Lane, Bolton. The pool has fully accessible changing facilities.
The course is open to anyone living with a neurological condition in Bolton and surrounding districts who can benefit from group-based exercises.
More than 250 people have had an opportunity to take part in the course to date. It is funded by Bolton Neuro Voices with just a token contribution of £35 from participants.
The courses run during the autumn and spring and for more information please contact Dr Anna Ziemer at a.ziemer@greatermanchester.ac.uk OR Thaira Qureshi on 07988 640379 or email boltonneurovoices@gmail.com.
The continuation programmes (usually three per year roughly coinciding with school terms) have been running since 2014 and is open to people who have been on a course and are assessed to continue safely without professional supervision.
The group exercises are designed by the University of Greater Manchester Physiotherapy Team who visits twice during each programme block. Participants are supported by a lifeguard, dry side volunteers and university students.
