Lawal is a Student Member of the Board of Governors at the University of Greater Manchester, where he is currently undertaking a Master of Research (MRes) in Environmental Management.
He holds a BSc in Geography and Planning from Lagos State University, Nigeria, where his research examined heavy metal contamination in disturbed soils across Lagos Metropolis.
Before moving to the UK, Lawal worked in environmental and planning regulation in Lagos State, including as a Monitoring and Inspection Officer for the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, and in a similar compliance role with the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, where he supported land use assessments and planning enforcement.
Lawal has a strong record of student leadership. He served as President of the Geography and Planning Students' Association (GAPSA-LASU) in 2019/2020, having previously been the Association's Sports Director, and was Public Relations Officer for the Independent Electoral Committee of the Social Sciences Students' Association (SOSSA-LASU).
In 2026, Lawal received the Outstanding Student Representative award at the University of Greater Manchester's Student Volunteer Awards, recognising his contribution within the School of Engineering.
