This Level 7 module is designed for registered healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge, clinical reasoning, and management of paediatric presentations within general practice and urgent care. Aligned to the NHS England Centre for Advancing Practice capability framework, the module supports evidence-based assessment, safeguarding, risk recognition, communication, and management of infants, children, and young people in primary care settings.

Course Overview
The Paediatric Care in General Practice and Urgent Care module is designed for registered healthcare professionals seeking to advance their knowledge, clinical reasoning, and management skills when caring for infants, children, and young people within primary and urgent care settings.This Level 7 module supports clinicians to develop evidence-based approaches to paediatric assessment, consultation, diagnosis, management, safeguarding, and risk recognition across a range of acute and long-term conditions commonly encountered in general practice and urgent care.
The module is aligned to the NHS England Centre for Advancing Practice Paediatric and Child Health Advanced Practice Area-Specific Capability and Curriculum Framework and is designed to consolidate and enhance experiential workplace learning through supervised clinical practice and reflective development.

- recognition of deterioration and red flag presentations

Entry Requirements
- Applicants should hold current registration with a recognised UK healthcare professional regulatory body (for example, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, or General Pharmaceutical Council).
- Applicants should be working in a role, or developing towards a role, involving the assessment and management of infants, children, and young people within primary care, urgent care, community, or related healthcare settings.
- Applicants should have successfully completed a Level 7 clinical examination skills module, or equivalent study at postgraduate level.
- Applicants should have access to appropriate paediatric clinical exposure within the workplace to support achievement of the practice learning outcomes.
- Applicants must also have support from their employing organisation or workplace setting to undertake the practice portfolio requirements.
- Applicants must also have opportunities within practice to undertake supervised paediatric consultations involving infants, children, and young people.
- Applicants must also have access to a suitably qualified mentor/practice assessor who can provide supervision, support workplace-based learning, and complete the final portfolio competency sign-off.
- Students are expected to work within their professional scope of practice and local organisational governance arrangements throughout the module.

Teaching & Assessment
This programme employs a blended approach to learning and teaching, in line with the University of Greater Manchester's TIRI (Teaching Intense, Research Informed) and Campus Plus strategies.
Lectures deliver essential knowledge and provide students with the opportunity to engage in discussions about complex issues. A variety of web-based resources will be available to you through Moodle, the University's virtual learning environment, which acts as a repository for core content and offers guidance for self-directed learning. Simulation sessions allow students to practice their skills in assessing pediatric patients.
The module is led by clinical experts in the field of pediatrics.
Each student will have opportunities for formative assessments that support learning and encourage reflection on the feedback received. Summative assessment will be through coursework and written exam.
This programme adopts a blended style of learning and teaching including online delivery and engagement where appropriate.
