Teaching & Assessment
This programme adopts a blended style of learning and teaching including online delivery and face-to-face engagement where appropriate in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials.
A key feature of the programme is the emphasis on engaging students in professional and vocationally relevant assessments. The course seeks to assess you using a variety of methods, including an oral presentation, viva and a critical discussion. The assessment strategy for the programme is designed to ensure that you achieve the overall aims and learning outcomes of the programme.
There are two types of assessment you will be required to complete: formative and summative. Formative assessments are activities that do not contribute to your overall module grade. They are, however, an integral part of the learning strategy for a module, and you are required to complete them. You will receive feedback on the quality and level of achievement and areas for further development.
Formative assessments serve to assess your learning as the module progresses. Many of the formative assessment tasks will either serve as preparation for your summative assessment tasks or provide an opportunity for a mock assessment. In this way, you will receive feedback on your presentation style or level of understanding of a module’s content before completing the summative assessment.
Summative assessments are those assessment activities for which the marks will contribute to the overall module grade. You will also receive feedback on these assessments so that you will know what you have done well and where you can improve. In this way, summative assessment provides valuable learning for modules that follow. Many different forms of assessment are employed in the programme, for both formative and summative purposes, and will adapt to reflect the contemporary and emerging practices in the field of sports medicine.
