Students Stories

Jamie Graham

Alumni, PGCE (M) 14+ Arts & Creative Practice

‘The PGCE (M) 14+ Arts & Creative Practice was a challenging but highly rewarding year, and one I am very glad I chose to undertake. My time studying at the University of Greater Manchester was a consistently positive experience.

Having completed my undergraduate studies at the university and later worked as a graphic designer, I returned to complete my PGCE, building on a strong undergraduate experience that continued at postgraduate level.

The PGCE represented a significant step up academically and professionally, and entering teaching required a period of adjustment. However, the emphasis on learning through experience, alongside a strong balance of theory and practical classroom teaching, helped me to build confidence quickly.

Throughout the programme, my tutors were extremely supportive and approachable, creating a strong sense of community and making me feel valued as an individual, which was especially important to me as someone coming from a small community. Their commitment to teaching and professional practice was inspiring, and it has directly influenced the type of teacher I strive to be within my own classroom.

Following completion of the programme, I progressed quickly into full-time employment teaching Art and Design in Further Education. I now feel confident teaching in post-14 and FE settings and well prepared for the demands of the role."

Ana

Alumni, PGCE (M) 14+ SEND

‘My experience with the PGCE M 14+ SEND programme was transformative. It gave me the skills and confidence to design a new curriculum, which I now teach at Mhist in Bolton, funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). I work as a psychotherapist through my own limited company and create CPD training for mental-health professionals, both with and without special educational needs. The course opened doors I never expected and played a major role in shaping the career I have today."
