We offer a range of support services and provisions for disabled students studying at the University of Greater Manchester.
Reasonable adjustments are modifications or accommodations made to ensure that students with disabilities, learning difficulties, or other challenges can access education on an equal level to their non-disabled peers. These adjustments are intended to remove barriers to learning, participation, and assessment, and they are designed to help students succeed academically while taking into account their unique needs. Reasonable adjustments are recorded in the student’s Individual Learning Support Plan, and are agreed between the student, disability advisor and programme team.
The inclusive marking sticker is designed to notify lecturers that a student may experience specific challenges related to academic writing, language and literacy due to a disability or Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD). The sticker serves as a way to ensure that students' writing challenges are understood and appropriately considered during the marking process. For more details, please see our Inclusive Marking Guidelines for Disabled Students.
Disabled students who are blue badge holders are allowed to use the disabled parking bays at the staff car park, located at the back of Senate House and in front of the Chancellor’s Mall. To access the car park, you will need to email a copy of your blue badge (both sides) to the Disability Service. Please bear in mind that the Disability Service cannot accept blue badges that belong to someone you provide care for. For information on how to apply for a blue badge, please click here
Laptop loans are available for disabled students who may not have access to the technology they need to participate in their studies. The laptops provided are equipped with specialised software or features to assist individuals with various disabilities, for example, screen readers for individuals with visual impairments, speech-to-text software, and accessibility features like magnification tools. Please speak to your disability advisor to understand how to borrow a loaned laptop.
