Course Overview
If you’re a graduate holding a non-accredited biomedical science degree, you can pursue registration as a biomedical scientist through the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) degree assessment process. As an IBMS-accredited university, we can offer our modules as individual top-up courses, so if you need to complete supplementary education, this stand-alone course can help you achieve your ambition.Our Cert(CPD) Anatomy and Physiology introduces you to the structure and function of the main human body systems. This will allow you to identify digestive, musculoskeletal, neural, cardiovascular and respiratory structures, and give you a basic understanding of their working mechanics in relation to human function and the maintenance of homeostasis.

Entry Requirements
- Normally, you will be expected to have an appropriate level 6 bioscience-related qualification.
- You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.
- If English isn't your first language, you'll need IELTS 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in any band (or equivalent) to meet the HCPC and IBMS's English language requirements at the point of registration as a biomedical scientist. - However, the University of Greater Manchester's English language requirement for this course is IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). We also accept a range of other English language qualifications – please visit our English Language Requirements web page for more details.

Home students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Home fee of £1,589 for the academic year 2025/26.

Teaching & Assessment
Your studies may include lectures, seminars, tutorials and critiques, self-directed learning, e-learning and laboratory/workshop sessions, as well as online sessions and support. Practical skills are acquired through technical introduction and support, workshop sessions, demonstrations and activity-based assignments. Active learning is promoted with a strong practical theme throughout.
We employ a wide variety of formative assessment activities, such as quizzes, discussions, in-class tests, group presentations, submission of summative assessment drafts (where appropriate) and debates. Together, these demonstrate what you can do, what you know, and your critical and evaluative abilities. We use assessments in a positive way to encourage you to develop a range of important skills.
This programme adopts a blended style of learning and teaching, including online delivery and engagement where appropriate.
